Fire detection and alarm systems are the contracting service of systems built to detect a fire in a building at an early stage through smoke, heat, flame or gas sensing, and to start evacuation and first response with automatic scenarios. The scope covers survey and risk assessment, zone-mapping, detector placement, cable backbone, detection panel, acoustic-optical warning, voice and automation interface installation, through function testing, commissioning, training and the periodic maintenance programme — end-to-end engineering. Within low current systems this is the most critical item as it directly concerns life safety.
System Types
- Conventional: Zone-based, independent loop per zone; the economic solution for small buildings and simple plans.
- Addressable: Every detector-call point-module is located individually; the panel gives point-based alarms. Standard for large and multi-storey sites.
- Aspiration (ASD): Sensitive early warning through air sampling; preferred in server rooms, archives, clean rooms and high-ceiling difficult volumes.
- Flame/gas detectors: UV/IR flame, combination and combustible gas sensors; complementary to conventional smoke detection on process and hazardous sites.
Integrations
The detection system is the control centre of evacuation and first response: announcement (PA) zone triggering, industrial door release, damper-fan (ventilation) stop-evacuation scenario, lift recall, camera steering-recording and access control release — the whole dialogue is verified through panel software and the automation interface. The automatic trigger chain of extinguishing (extinguishing systems) is an inseparable part of this design.
Testing, Commissioning and Periodic Maintenance
In commissioning every detector point is triggered with a smoke/heat test device or representative test, panel record and alarm location verified; scenario tests run zone by zone (door release, fan stop, announcement sequence), and continuity is proven with emergency supply (battery) duration measurement and mains-cut trial. Periodic maintenance requires the annual function check — dirty detector cleaning, reading fault logs, auditing disabled zones, battery and charge. A silenced alarm or a failed door release or a disabled zone produces fatal consequences in a real fire.
Legislation and Outcome
Installation runs under the duties of Law No. 6331 and the Regulation on Protection Against Fire in Buildings; product and design per the TS EN 54 series (detector, panel, siren, cable) with TS EN 54-14 for design, and maintenance tied to TS EN 54-13. The system is also part of the occupancy permit and fire clearance file.
