General Cleaning
General cleaning and maintenance of power transformers: body-bushing-fin cleaning, leak remediation and fan-pump service, with reports.
General transformer cleaning removes accumulated dust, dirt, oil residue, vegetable-bird-chip debris from the external and accessible internal surfaces of the power transformer, and records the visual deficiencies emerging during it (leakage, paint lifting, loose parts, blocked cooling) as maintenance input. Cleaning is not aesthetics but a thermal and dielectric performance service: soiled radiator cores cut cooling capacity, conductive dust layers start leakage current and tracking on insulator surfaces, and bird nests stop fans and carry fire load.
Cleaning and Maintenance Scope
- Body and bushings: Surface cleaning with dry steam or non-drying agents or suitable solvent; crack-splinter monitoring on porcelain-composite bushing surfaces, top coat and label (capacity plate, warning plates) legibility.
- Cooling organs: Pressure air/water cleaning of radiator cores and fan blades (without flattening the core), motor-brake-guide grille control, thermostat fan start-up trial; oil-pump (ON/OF) running and vibration control.
- Tank bottom and conservator: Sludge-water drainage (bottom valve) together with sample, conservator membrane-breather cleaning and silica gel change; tray-drainage cleaning (leak trace and clogging).
- Mechanical-protection: Feet-vibration pads, earthing conductor and joint tightness, lid-bung gasket condition, extinguisher-environment wall (barrier) cleaning; restoring readability by removing dirt from accessories (relay, gauge, level).
- Environment order: Vegetation-chemicals, bird-insect nests around the site; safety signage, lighting and lock-barrier control preserving the safety zone.
Timing and Assurance
General cleaning is typically planned yearly or biennially, watching pollen-dust heavy seasons and bird migration; tightened in desert-coastal-industrial pollution sites. Work runs de-energised (OSAS) or with safe distance (live line procedure); insulator surfaces must not be scratched and steam-moisture must not enter during debris cleaning. Cleaning merges with inspection: a gasket leak, loosened bushing or damaged fan emerging in visual examination passes into the report in one line with a rectification plan. The service thus protects the dielectric-hydraulic margin and makes fault precursors visible.
Legislation and Outcome
Cleaning-maintenance is within scope under Law No. 6331, the High Current Installations Regulation and the work equipment periodic maintenance duty; waste water-solvent and nest debris are disposed per environmental legislation. Risk assessment, permit and LOTO procedures before work are standard. Results connect to a signed report with photographic checklist, findings and proposals. General transformer cleaning belongs to our Transformer Tests and Analyses heading; for detailed test sets see Insulation Oil Test and Insulation Test, or contact us for your periodic programme.
FAQ on General Cleaning
Dust-dirt-pollen-salt-grease accumulation shortens the surface leakage-creepage path and grows the external insulation (flashover) risk; it clogs radiator-cooler-fin channels narrowing the thermal margin; on top of an oil leak it stores fire load. Therefore general cleaning is not cosmetic but the preventive maintenance layer of insulation-cooling-fire safety, and it takes its place in the periodic control package.
The body-paint surface dirt-bird dropping-debris-oil (low pressure water-soft brush-suitable detergent), the bushing insulator outer surface (dry-microfibre-without insulation-lowering chemical-without scratching), radiator fin gaps (air-water against the flow), cooler fan protection mesh, panel-cell-terminal area-dust-brush-suction-filter-outdoor moisture, environment drainage pit-algae pooling (water-rooting), transformer road-sand-gravel-foreign object. Work runs de-energised-earthed; no abrasive-high pressure water-high hose.
Exposing the surface reveals hidden oil leak-crystallisation, crack-corrosion-under-paint thinning, bushing discharge-tracking-darkening, loosened-fallen part-bolt-terminal, radiator deformation-clogging, water pooling-moisture source, rodent-bird nesting (fire-insulation), drainage blockage (flood inundation). For this reason a checklist-record against findings is held during cleaning with photo-date-temperature.
Cleaning is planned between half-year and year per environment pollution level (coastal-industrial-agricultural-dusty-rural), tightening near salt or pollen seasons. Work: de-energised control-isolation-earthing safety permit (open), high-work scaffold safety-non-slip step, chemical safety data sheet (SDS) and PPE, waste-water-soil protection (oily water separation). Results (before-after scan-measurement) enter the yearly control report and trend.
