Lighting Measurement at Work: The Cost of Insufficient Light
Lighting is the unseen driver of vision error, accident and productivity loss. This article ties the method, task-based lux needs, uniformity-glare criteria and the emergency lighting test to installation inspection.
Lighting measurement determines with engineering whether the light falling on a work surface (lux) and its distribution fit the job done. Little light erases detail and creates error-impact-eye strain; excessive-poorly directed light disturbs vision with glare. Right lighting is an input of production quality as much as of safety. The level planned with our lighting fixture installations is verified by measurement in assembly-control-inspection tasks.

Measurement is done with a grid of reference points, with lamps warm-running and under day-night distinction. The value is compared to the fitting-lamp-optics design. Light-mechanical automation cuts energy and unwanted heat with daylight-motion control.
Emergency Lighting and Safety
On escape routes-exits-localised risk points emergency lighting is measured by battery duration and lux threshold in a cut-power scenario: the duration and darkness trial is part of planned control. Outdoor-security lighting and the IP-external-durability class of the fitting are audited in the periodic electrical control (installation periodic inspection).
When to Re-measure?
- Fitting change-maintenance, lamp ageing (lumen depreciation), colour shift.
- Production-colour-inspection line change; new task-zone layout.
- Building facade-enclosure-structural change and daylight scenario shift.
