Goods lifts and hydraulic platforms carrying floor traffic are audited yearly under the lifting machinery regulation. This guide summarises the control items, the typical non-conformities and the operator discipline.
Goods lifts and hydraulic platforms carry the floor traffic of warehouse-workshop-factory and are subject to periodic inspection as lifting-handling machines. They must never be converted to carry people — most accident scenarios start with a person boarding a goods lift. The control is built over rope-chain-sheave, safety gear (catch-break valve), shaft-door-lock integration and the capacity limiter.
Control Items
- Lifting member: rope jump-break-corrosion, chain wear-elongation, block-brake integrity; tension check on chain type. (lifting machine inspection)
- Safety gear: overspeed catch trigger trial, rupture/burst valve on the cylinder, upper-lower limit switch and final buffer.
- Door-lock chain: floor door not opening while the cabin moves, no motion before door closed (interlock); electromechanical lock function.
- Structural-shaft: cabin-platform rigidity, guide-rail alignment, anchor, shaft cleanliness-fall hazard.

Operator Discipline
On the goods lift the capacity plate is visible, the load balanced, the floor door kept closed after use. The daily eye (rope-door-alarm-sound), monthly maintenance and annual periodic inspection run under record. On the platform side hydraulic leak-level and support-block procedure are part of maintenance safety. The separate examination of chain accessories (sling inspection) is not forgotten — the sling carries load as much as the lift. Post the capacity plate and a no-passenger warning at every floor door, and keep lift access under key control.
